I set up a couple of mailing lists just to try out the mailing list system Postman that is included in Mac OS X Panther Server.
There seems to be a problem with permissions in the standard install. I could not get Postman to work at first. After dropping in to the terminal and run /usr/share/mailman/bin/check_perms and then /usr/share/mailman/bin/check_perms -f a couple of times every think was groovy. Yet another thing Apple need to look at when it comes to their Admin Tool. When doing “Repair permissions” with Disk Utility, it reinstates the bad owner/permissions in Postman folders, so you need to run check_perms again if you do an repair permissions. But this is going to be cool when they get it to work. It actually does not bother me right now, this is a test install before I do any upgrades so all problems I have is a great learning experience. And I think it’s a good rule to get to know how all the software works behind the pretty UI. Makes it easier to fix stuff when it breaks. And with tools like SSH, I can do it from home…
