My continued saga about my test installation of Mac OS X Panther Server. This time it’s time for Quicktime Streaming Server.
And as usual, the graphical frontend does not work as it should. When trying to add a mp3 playlist for doing a Shoutcast internet radio broadcast, I got a error message. “The playlist failed preflight” Ok, here are a couple of things that can give this descriptive error message. You forget to enter a value in the Genre field. You have a space characters in the name of the folder (I’m not 100% on this one). If you have a space or non alfa-numeric character in the filename of the first file you add to a new list, you get the error dialog.
Note to the programmers responsible for the GUI setup program. If it’s easier to compile the programs yourself and follow the directions on how to set it up, what’s the use with a GUI frontend? All the software behind the GUI works, it’s the GUI that is defective. Replace the GUI with one that works and you have a fantastic server. When you manage to get through all the bugs of the GUI, the server seems to be stable and work well. Apple fix this!
