Impressive Sonic Impact T-amp

I have now ordered two TangBand W3-871S speakers from Germany. I tried the US, Denmark, Sweden but all where sold out. Finally got hold of a guy selling them from Germany. So they should be on there way as we speak!

Time to go and buy some wood for this project. I’m going to build a par of [Needles](http://www.greenie512.net/greenie512/html/needles.html) to begin with. Later on I’m going to build the Lancetta speaker with the same element.

I also got me my new toy today. A $60 amplifier like no other. [Sonic Impact T-amp](http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/t-amp_e.html).I’m totally blown away by the quality coming out of this little cheap thing. I now drive my very tough to drive speakers NHT VT2. And still it works! And the sound quality is magnificent! I’m getting hooked on this DIY cheap audiophile thingy.

Next on my list (not counting building the speaker cabinet) is to start modding the amplifier for a little better bass and overall sound. I’m thinking of take the electronics out of the old plastic box and put it in an old aluminum LaCie hard disk cabinet.

I’m thinking of doing a small instruction (text/photo) post to show how to and how not to do this buildup.
Hopefully I should have a great bedroom stereo for about $200 with the satisfaction that I did most of it myself.

I’ll keep you posted.

DIY speakers

I want to have a couple of speakers in the beadroom, so I started to search the net. I found a very intresting [DYI speaker project](http://www.hififorum.nu/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=45145&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=lancetta) here (Swedish). So I ordered the speakers and can’t wait to get them. My skills in working with wood is very limited, but I may get some help from one of my friends, who is an expert wood carpenter.

The build is based on a [German project called Lancetta (PDF warning)](http://www.blueplanetacoustic.de/pdf/134/Lancetta.pdf) but with some modifications. Very cool using a small 3″ driver. I’ll try to post more info when I get started.

I’ve been switching over almost all computers at work to new black Macbooks. But there’s a lot of problems with Microsoft Office 2004 crashing all over the place. Powerpoint hangs, sometimes destroy files (this problem isn’t new, had the same problems with the old machines) and generally misbehaves. Word and excel sporadically crashes. Trying to explain to people who is used to Windows, that a mac is a very stable operating system doesn’t go to well. If a program misbehaves, it must be Apples fault. Very annoying. I don’t use any Microsoft products on my machine and generally don’t have any problems. I’ve tried to get people to switch over to Keynote, but that’s not easy. The worry that they will not be able to share documents with Powerpoint users is the main reason. But also the effort of learning a new program.

It’s amazing how little discussion there is about problems with the Office suite on macs, and not knowing if Microsoft is going to to something about it eventually.
