iSync

August 10th, 2004 · No Comments

My mobile phone stopped working so it was time to get a new one. I got the Sony Ericsson p900. Yeah, I know that there will be a new version called p910 in a couple of weeks, but who can wait? So I tried to get it to work with iSync, and it failed miserably. By following the guide here, and just doing the first step, which is to copy a file after editing it with your phone ID, It worked. The concept of iSync is great, but the implementation is crappy. I have had a Palm connected, and had a lot of problems. Now you have to use Unix tools to get a phone that Apple calls supported to work, that’s bad. Hopefully in the next version in Mac OS X Tiger will work better.

The phone is nice. A little big and bulky. I especially like the scroll-wheel where you can push the wheel front and back to navigate the menus. The text recognition seems pretty good, takes a while to unlearn the Graffiti writing you do on Palm. This is more natural writing. All in all it seems like a good phone.
