For posterity

Every manufacturer of Digital Cameras use different formats for storing RAW images. This will get you in trouble in years to come, when you are not able to open your pictures any more. So Adobe stepped up to the plate and has introduced a new image format based on Tiff, called Digital Negative (DNG) What Adobe hopes is that this will become a standard among the camera manufacturers. All the different versions of RAW is not publicly available so this would be a good thing. As long as Adobe doesn’t want some licensing money for DNG. I can’t see an advantage for the companies to use proprietary formats, and the benefit for the consumer for using an open format would be great.
