A new software that claims that it will allow Mac OS X to be run on PC hardware, called CherryOS was being announced a couple of days ago. And their web servers crashed. They blame angry Mac users.
“The hackers smashed it all to hell. We had a bunch of servers up for this, and they just destroyed them,” he said. “The purists out there get their backs up about anything affecting Macs.”
It’s funny, I read about it on Slashdot. When checking their webpage I noticed that they where using ASP and .net, two Proprietary Microsoft technologies. Now, running a Microsoft Webserver (which is by it self not very smart) and the combination of being linked by the very popular Slashdot site can only result in one thing. Crash. There’s even a name for it. It’s the dreaded slashdot effect. But who do they blame? The religious mac users of course… Here’s some of my tips for trying to handle a visit from Slashdot. Change platform on your web server. Try to make static pages. Change your logo, Try to use ascii to keep bandwith down. I have one for you.
