Skype for Mac

December 30th, 2004 · No Comments

Skype I’ve been reading a lot about Skype and finally got curious enough to try it out. And the current Beta version seems Mac-like enough for me. The thing I would really like to have is a Olympia cordless DU@Lphone, but the software for it is Windows only. Maybe there will be a mac version (from them or someone else), but it isn’t very likely. But the implementation of the phone is a bit stupid I think. To get the VoIP to work, you have to have your USB connected computer on all the time. That seems logical. But why not use the power of the computer to make the phone smarter? Why not have the ability to search the net for a phone number? How about being able to lookup a name or phone number from the addressbook on the computer? All the logic and software to get it to work would be on the computer, all the phone needs to do is to display it. I wonder why they didn’t do that?
