I upgraded to iPhoto 5 on two of my machines yesterday and on my stationary machine, all the albums and pictures disappeared. I should have done a backup, but I didn’t. All the pictures are in the iPhoto Library folder naturally, but all the albums and tags are lost. That’s if for me and iPhoto. The idea of keeping all the pictures, album information and tags in a database is stupid anyway. There is already support for putting tags in the pictures, albums could be ordered in folders on the harddisk and so on. Apple should only use a cached database to make the program faster, something it’s not now. Done correctly recreating the database from the folders on the disk and the tags in the pictures would be easy. But no. So I’m going to use iView Media Pro instead of iPhoto in the future.
Others have had the same problem, check out this link.
