Noppes

January 30th, 2005 · 2 Comments

My friend Henke had his thirty fifth birthday friday. So a couple of old friends met up and had dinner together. Usually in Sweden, people get paid once a month, on the 25th, so the following weekend is the worst for going out to dinner or drinking. We ended up at a Mongolian restaurant, a “get a cheap meal and get drunk for a nominal fee” kind of place. But the food was pretty good.

After the meal we went to a place called Noppes Bar. It’s a private club owned by one of the Swedish kings best friend, count Noppe Lewenhaupt. To get in you have to know the secret code and have a members card. Apparently it’s pretty hard to get hold of such a card. Fortunately one in our company had. This is the kings favorite hangout, and a lot of celebrities. The only famous person I could see was Peter “Foppa” Forsberg. It’s fantastic that I managed to recognize him, being totally uninterested in sports. My first guess was that he played football, but he plays hockey for the Colorado Avalanches (thanks Google). There could probably have been a lot of famous people there that I missed, but I’m also totally not interested in reality shows. But I could spot a lot of very rich people there. Our gang included two bikers and me in cheap H&M clothes so I guess we stood out a bit. But that didn’t hinder me from getting good and drunk.

Well now Forsberg plays for MoDo in Övik. I would be surprised if you did not recognize him, whether interested in hockey or not his face is plastered everywhere! He even modeled for MQ over the Christmas season.
