The enlightened business of entertainment

February 11th, 2005 · 1 Comment

Jack Valenti, the former head of MPAA once compared the BetaMax video recorder with the Boston Strangler. Back in the day they where totally scared that the video cassette recorder would make illegal copying possible, thus ruining the movie business. They took it to court and lost, making it possible for you to buy a VCR. Today the movie business makes more money from selling and renting out movies on video cassettes and DVDs than they do selling tickets to the cinema.

Check out other examples of large corporations trying to control what you can buy, and how you can use electronics.

I’m going to support Electronic Frontier Foundation.
