Google is using Linux and other Open-Source software to drive it’s massive search engine. But they don’t provide any software, like the Google searchbar to anything but Windows. The same with Apple. They use BSD and a lot of Open-Source software, like Apache, PHP and Samba to make/enrich the Mac OS X environment. But do they provide a version of Quicktime for Linux/Unix? No. Some say that because Apple use a lot of codecs from third party, Apple would have to pay royalty for there users. But one would think that more Quicktime users must be a good thing, and why would one value a Windows download more than a Linux one?

Support is a key problem. There are too many Linux distributions to support and too many unexpected error that can crop up. If you want a Google search bar (PR also), it is out there for all platforms. Sadly, it was not provided by Google.
As regards Quicktime, again there is too much works involved for very few users. Revenue comes before religion in industry.

I moved the comments for you.
Regarding Google, they are still a good example of a company that is Windows centric. None of their software (local search tools and their toolbar) is available for Macintosh. Yeah I know, only 3-5% but it’s increasing. And to not provide service to (at least) twenty million users is plain stupid. It still amazes me how stupid companies can be when it comes to just supporting Windows. There is a lot of web sites that only works in Explorer for windows. It’s like having a retail store that refuses 8% of their customers to enter. And that has nothing to do with religion and every thing to do with stupidity.

Thanks for moving the message. That’s what I was hoping for.
For Google (among other companies) it is convenient (financially) to treat only a portion of the prospective customers. Dumb and discriminatory too, I agree.
