A lot of people don’t like that you see the content of pictures and pdfs in Mac OS X Mail.app. I’m certain that there used to be an option to select that in one of the menus, but not any more. Today I finally found how to do it at macintouch. Just hold down ctrl on your keyboard, click on a picture in Mail and select “Show as icon” in the menu.
