How to beat the Osborne Effect

June 12th, 2005 · 1 Comment

As soon as I heard that Apple is indeed moving to Intel architecture and that they would start to sell Intel based Macs within a year, I really thought that they needed to go to Intel machines faster. There’s going to be a big dip in sales the closer you get to the switchover. But according to James Duncan Davidson and Brent Simmons, the software porting will probably go even faster than Apple planned. Brent Simmons even got NetNewsWire and MarsEdit up and running (it took two hours). Mostly because he used libraries by other developers so he needed to compile there as well. So hopefully Apple will start to sell Intel based Macs faster. I know I would buy a new fast Powerbook with an Intel processor as soon as they are released.
