Writing Kit – The best Markdown editor on iPad

writing kit logoWriting Kit 2.0 - The quest for the best Markdown editor on the iPad.

I’ve been searching for a good Markdown editor now for a while. I mainly want to use it for writing blog posts on my private blog, but also for editing other stuff that I write. The criteria I need in a program is the following:

  • Be able to sync with dropbox.
  • Preview Markdown documents.
  • Work with folders within Dropbox, so syncing with Scrivener, my favorite writing app on my Mac, works.
  • Work well with app switching on the iPad, so I can do research on the web in Safari, and quickly switch back to the text editor.
  • Work with other tools like TextExpander touch and terminology App.

Blogsy blog app for iPad with potential but has some bugs and problems

wpid Photo 26 jan 2012 10541

I really like the Blogsy blog app, but it have some annoying bugs and problems. Before the latest version, every time you made changes it added a lot of cruft in the HTML, specifically Apple span code that messed up the posts. So to my delight the latest version 3.3 fixed this problem. Unfortunately it seems a new bug has crept in. When editing old posts, it makes a duplicate copy of the post. If this bugs could be fixed, it would really be the best blog tool available. Because I prefer to write on my iPad vs my computer. hopefully this will be fixed soon and I’ll be in blogging heaven.

Update: Haven’t been able to reproduce the duplication error. There is a bug where where the paragraph button isn’t working as it should. Will be fixed in the next version apparently. here’s an update, 3.3.1 coming soon.

Image editing for blogging on iPad

When I first got my iPad I thought it was great for consuming media, but not for creating it. But after a year I do most of my writing and blogging from my iPad. With a connected Bluetooth keyboard it’s an excellent tool for writing. No spinning hard drive, no fan, just comfortable silence. And with apps like Writing Kit and Blogsy, I can do all the things I need for blogging. But handling images isn’t that easy. Here’s my tips on getting your images in shape directly on your iPad.

IPad crash – Fixed!

iPad crash problem fixed.

It looks like I finally found a solution to my iPad crashing problem. My first generation iPad crashed all the time without any apparent reason. I found it on a forum and I’ve been running my iPad all day without one crash. Haven’t been able to do that since upgrading to iOS 5.01.

All you need to do is to reset all settings. Open the Settings app and under General and choose Reset. Press Reset All Settings. This sounds dangerous, but you won’t lose any data, only your settings. The machine will show a progress bar, which is normal. After the machine is reset, you should now hopefully have an iPad gen 1 that doesn’t crash all the time. All the settings for mail etc wasn’t affected by the reset by the way.

iPad, useless expensive toy?

After buying my 32G 3G iPad I was a bit worried that it would become yet another victim of my impulsiveness. The first day with it, I was convinced that I’d get bored within the week and having it ending up on my mountain of cool but never used electronics. But during the weeks I’ve used it, it’s becoming indispensable. Checking out Twitter with Twitter for iPad. Reading news on FlipBoard (which has the most beautiful design of all news readers), answering mails, making plans with OmniFocus for iPad, chatting with IM+ and using the calendar (naturally synced to Google Calendar) for booking appointments. It’s now an essential part of my daily life. I’m also starting to hate the noise of my Macbook. With the iPad, it’s really quiet.
