I’ve had performance problems with my firewall so I thought it was time to upgrade to a better firewall. After looking around I found a lot of articles about the Linksys WRT54G, a wireless router that’s easily patched with new firmware. Because it uses the linux operating system, Linksys have to publish source code under the GPL license. This makes it easy for others to improve and implement new features. So I got an image from Sveasoft called Talisman and installed it. And it works great! I can now have QoS so my VoIP telephone stuff always gets priority.
There’s going to be different versions of Talisman, one of them is going to be an image with Asterisk installed. That’s going to be fantastic.
I now officially have more Linux computers at home that macs. And you have to love the stuff. My satellite receiver, my router, my phone PBX and hacker machine.
When Apple was going through its rough times in the 90s I always comforted myself knowing that I always had a good operating system to migrate to if Apple went down the tube.
