Update: After this old machine gave up I moved my hosting to HostGator for the time being. I will host it at home again when I get the time to build a new machine.
Wordpress Server Hardware
The server is an old IBM PC with an Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.20GHz. It has 3Gb of memory and an IBM 60Gb SSD disk installed. The SSD disk made a huge improvement in performance!. Hopefully it will stand the test of time. But so far, so good.
Internet line
I actually have the server installed in the living room and using my home internet connection, a 10/100Mbit line provided from Bredbandsbolaget. So the upload speed is 10Mbit per second, and when testing with LoadImpact from the outside, It can handle around 30–60 pages/second. Using LoadStorm the CPU tags along around 1% of processing use, all due to the Varnish Cache, the W3 Total Cache and CDN provided by Amazon CloudFront.
Unnecessary Accessories
I also built a display so I can see when I get a new unique visitor on a LED display. So while you read there pages, I can see you! After finding an old General Electric ampere meter, I added the analog needle to show the CPU usage. I used an Arduino to control the display and CPU meter. I’ll do a post if someone equally nerdy as me is interested.

That’s about it when it comes to the hardware. Nothing amazing or special, but it does the job well. Very well in fact. I haven’t got Slashdotted or being attacked by hackers, but my initial test shows some promise.
